Mutual Help Homeownership Program:

The Bering Straits Regional Housing Authority manages 401 Units in the Bering Strait Region under the Mutual Help Homeownership Program. Homebuyers enter into a Mutual Help Agreement (MHOA) with the purchase price of the home amortizing over a 25 year period.

The required monthly payment shall be 15% of the annual adjusted income, with a $105.000 minimum payment and/or administrative charge. Any balance over this amount will automatically be placed into a Monthly Equity Payment Account (MEPA) that will be used to decrease the purchase price schedule, allowing the homebuyer an earlier conveyance from our program.

Annual and Intrim re-certifications will be done to determine whether the monthly charge should be changed, or if there are any changes to the family members. A decrease will take place the 1st of the next month, an increase is given a 30 day notice.

Available Units will be posted on our Bering Straits Regional Housing Authority Website under the Available Units posting page.

For more information contact: Shirley M. Bell, Linda Gologergen, Carmelita Nattanguk or Hannah Katongan.
